MAPLE TAFFY

MAPLE TAFFY

Makes 15 Pieces

Ingredients

DIRECTIONS

  1. Fill a large tray or container with snow, packing it down. Keep outside or put in the freezer while you cook the syrup. Or, pick a clean, snowy spot outside!
  2. Pour the maple syrup into a large saucepan and bring to a boil. Cook over medium-low heat, stirring with a wooden spoon until a candy thermometer reads between 235 and 245 F (112 to 118 C) or a small amount of syrup dropped into cold water forms a firm ball.
  3. Remove from heat and let cool for 5 minutes, until the bubbles disappear.
  4. Drizzle syrup over the snow in thin lines about 5 inches long. If the syrup is too liquid, continue cooking. If the syrup is too thick, add a little water and stir.
  5. Let the maple syrup cool in the snow for 3-5 seconds, then place a wooden stick on one end and roll taffy into a lollipop.
  6. Enjoy!
